Friday, 23 June 2006 will present itself as a concluding chapter to my 12 months and 10 days of service to Raffles Town Club.
It has been an amazing year, filled with great people and wonderful colleagues… it has been a tough year as well, brought about by the court case that the Club faced and the subsequent Scheme of Compromise and Arrangement that was presented to members.
Had I not been involved in the exercise, I would never have believed the possibility of cold-calling 17,000 people in a matter of 2 to 3 weeks! Not a pleasant experience, firstly the horrid feeling of doing the cold calls and secondly, the expectation of being screwed by the angry party on the other side of the line.
With my other colleagues, we spent close to a month bunking in the Club, packing our stuff in the Junior Suite and staying there due to the long working hours during that period. There was plenty more ‘interesting’ things that we did then, all just to allow the Scheme a higher chance of take-up rate.
It was the opportunity of a lifetime to observe how some companies operate and how things may not run as clockwork or as perfect as we may expect them to be. There were some cock-ups, some grey areas and some areas which we totally could not agree with; yet limited in our capacity and our positions…we could do nothing but simply to abide with Management’s directives.
It has been a fulfilling year in all, plenty of eye-opening scenarios and now its finally time to move on and to grow with new challenges that would present itself in my new workplace, till then… let me just pray that the new place will be a more stable environment where I can focus more on my job scope rather than constant firefighting and picking up lost parts of the puzzle…
I suppose there would never be a perfect workplace but we can only try to make it better through our own efforts… I will take next week to recharge, rejuvenate and re-plan in what I want to achieve in my new workplace!
